cambodian children's trust (cct)
Battambang is situated along the tranquil Sangkae River in north western Cambodia. Home to some of the best preserved examples of French colonial architecture, the Bamboo Train & Phare Circus, Battambang receives its fair share of tourist attention. And while each of these attractions are undoubtedly a draw for REBAVA, we're honored to offer our students the opportunity to meet with the Cambodian Children's Trust (CCT), who also calls Battambang home. It's with CCT that our students' notions of 'helping' & 'serving' really get put to the test. For many students, lessons learned during their time with CCT will be a highlight of the trip. And, undoubtedly, lessons that impact them for a lifetime.

CCT is a secular, non-profit Cambodian NGO working to enable children in Battambang to break free from the cycle of poverty & become educated, ethical & empowered leaders in their communities. CCT operates Community Outreach, Education & Social Enterprise programs with a focus on family-based care, reintegration & family preservation.
CCT was established in 2007 when Tara Winkler & Pon Jedtha, with the support of the Cambodian Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran & Youth Rehabilitation, rescued 14 children from a corrupt & abusive orphanage in Battambang.
CCT's programs include Youth Centers & a Preschool that provide life-changing support to vulnerable children & their families in Battambang. ALL children supported are living in a family. CCT works to prevent vulnerable children from being trafficked, subjected to child labour & from ending up in orphanages by helping families to escape poverty together.
The following talk was delivered by Tara Winkler, Managing Director of CCT, in June 2016 at TEDxSydney. It's a must watch video for anyone who wants to better understand how our very best intentions often do more harm than good. Thankfully, as Maya Angelou says: when we know better, we can do better.
